WHEN ARE MASKS REQUIRED:
- Visiting or working in an indoors or in public setting.
- Working outdoors if social distancing is not possible.
- Visiting any venue with its own mask policy.
- Riding on public transit, in a taxi or ride share service.

MASKS ARE RECOMMENDED WHEN:
- Attending indoor or outdoor private social gatherings and social distancing is difficult to maintain.
- Riding in a private vehicle with persons from another household.
- If you have tested positive or suspect you may have COVID-19.
- If you have been in contact with someone with COVID-19.
EXEMPTIONS:
When possible, businesses must provide or allow for accommodations to those with exemptions. Examples of accommodations could be the use of face shields, working from home, or service options that do not require an individual to enter a building or office. Businesses should not demand visitors provide proof of conditions relating to an exemption. Employers must follow existing laws, contracts, and policy with respect to requiring documentation of a worker's medical condition, mental health condition, or
- Individuals with health conditions, mental health conditions, or disability making it unsafe or debilitating to wear a mask for the necessary period of time.
- While communicating with an individual who is hearing impaired or deaf.
- When working alone in a space with walls higher than face level, e.g. cubicles, offices, cabs of vehicles or heavy equipment.
- When a public safety worker is actively engaged in public safety activity.
- Except for individuals with an exemption, face shields alone are not considered adequate.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW:
- Remember: If you can still work from home you must continue to work from home.
- All businesses must update their COVID-19 Preparedness Plans to reflect the new requirement.
- Businesses must post signs instructing employees and visitors to wear face coverings.
- Businesses and employees are not required to enforce this order when it is unsafe to do so.
- The order does not authorize businesses or employees to restrain or physically remove someone who refuses to wear a mask.
- Employees are protected from retaliation for reporting unsafe working conditions to the Minnesota Department of Labor OSHA.
